Dustern is a Bay Area band initially formed by partners Derek DeRoche and LiHe Han, when they were in college together. The aim was to create metal-based music with a shoegazey atmosphere––and hints of classic rock, folk, country, jazz, and pop––taking influence from pioneering bands like Earth and Alcest. After some songwriting and early recordings, the band solidified its lineup and reworked its sound by recruiting Derek’s cousin, Dan Brownson (Catapult the Dead), on bass, and Patrick Spain (Catapult the Dead, Mountaineer) on drums. After playing some local shows, they teamed up with sound engineer Sam Guerard (Dwel) to record their debut full-length, 2018’s Ouden. Since then, they have added Kuranes as a second guitarist.
